In Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016, you’ll find that this option is no longer available as full details are also used to build the Contact Card.
Outlook is helping you complete other activities and does not allow the address book update to interfere.
My computer slows down when Outlook shows the "Updating Address Book" status. In computers with slow hard disk drives, such as portable computers, or running Outlook in a Virtual machine, the process of updating the address book can slow down the computer if the hard disk is fragmented.
The Outlook Client failed to download an updated copy of the Offline Address Book because the services have stopped functioning.
The Global Address Book (GAL) is a directory of available contact information for CUMC, NYPH and Columbia University faculty, staff and students.
To get the OAM to immediately generate run the following command: Update-Offline Addressbook “name of offline address book”.
You may encounter an issue stating that the System Attendant Service is not running or you do not have permission. Make sure you are running the Exchange Management Shell as Administrator and 2. *note* The Service is named “Microsoft Exchange System Attendant”.
(This could take several minutes) Outlook shows the "Updating Address Book" status for a long time. Outlook has a throttling feature that slows the address book update when you are working in Outlook.
This can cause the “Updating Address Book” status appearing for a long time.
You can disable the option “Download changes since last Send/Receive” to make sure you get a complete fresh copy of the OAB but this could take longer to download.
In Outlook 2010 and previous, it is recommended to leave the option “Full Details” enabled.
In the Information to download section, select Full Details and in the Address Book section, choose \Global Address List. **NOTE** Please read this section carefully, or your update will not work!!
