Charlie, 59, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 5, 2017, at his home in Piedmont.He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Heather; son, Thomas; three sisters, Mary De Leeuw (Harlan Christianson), Barb (Steve) Dreyer, and Karen (Tom) Whitehead; and the two shining stars of his life, grandsons, Owen and Shaughn. Charlie's favorite things included riding his motorcycle, drag racing, Ford and Coca-Cola collectibles, filling his garage with tools and projects, listening to gospel music, researching war history, going to movies, and serving his family.
Charlie lived an extreme life that didn't always agree with the "norm," but he lived big and with joy.
He would talk of many memories from the different places he lived, but his fondest memories were spent in Montana at the 'Schmaus House' with his Grandpa Carl, Grandma Margaret, and brother, Scott. Rich worked as a mechanic, machinist, roustabout, and laborer while living in Gillette. After moving to South Dakota, Rich was very involved in the AA program.
Many a story was told of the trouble Rich and Scott would get into all in the name of having fun and picking up cans with Grandma Margaret. He touched many lives while being active in AA and will always be remembered by those people he helped.He leaves behind his wife, Lynne, son, Ryan, daughters; Kelly, Roberta and Lynnette, sisters; Marcy and Mary Lou, and many friends.A graveside service will be held, pm Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with a celebration of his life to follow at the Veterans Club in Sturgis.Charles Edward De Leeuw was born in Mankato, MN, on June 10, 1958, to Dutch and Lillian (Mott) De Leeuw, the fifth born of six children.He spent his early growing up years in Lake Crystal, MN.Richards; parents, Clifford & Arlene Glidden of Belle Fourche, SD; sister, Betty Jensen of Spearfish, SD; and numerous lifelong friends that held a special place in her heart.
